New Website on Judicial Retention Election
A new website has been created to help voters learn about the appellate judges up for retention in November elections, and launched a month prior to this year's election with information about the five judges on the ballot in 2008. The new site offers information including a brief biography of each judge facing a retention election. Hoosier Hospitality in the Ukraine: Educating Judges & Journalists
It is a fledgling democracy that gained freedom from the crumbling Soviet Union in 1991. Since then, a total of 40 journalists have been murdered. Just last year four judges were removed from the Ukrainian bench on bribery charges. According to lawyer surveys, seventy four percent of them believe corruption envelops the judiciary, and one in five respondents reported giving bribes to judges.
