On Wednesday, January 10, 2024, Chief Justice Loretta Rush delivered her tenth State of the Judiciary address to Governor Eric Holcomb and a joint session of the Indiana General Assembly. Other state leaders and more than 100 trial court judges from across the state filled every open seat inside and outside the chamber. The Chief Justice began her remarks by proudly telling lawmakers she believes Indiana has the strongest judiciary in the nation.
In the speech, Rush talked about how courts contribute to improving the lives and communities of Hoosiers statewide—in part due to the General Assembly’s commitment to funding the judicial branch and the Governor’s appointment of at least 100 highly-qualified new judges.

During the speech, Chief Justice Rush talked about a report by Professor Victor Quintanilla, with help from a group of grad students, about people’s experiences with remote court hearings. IU’s Marah Yankey wrote an article (Oct. 2023) about it titled, “New report assesses citizens’ experiences with remote court hearings in civil cases.”
