2023 State of the Judiciary

February 16, 2023

On Wednesday, January 11, 2023, Chief Justice Loretta Rush delivered her ninth State of the Judiciary address to Governor Eric Holcomb and a joint session of the Indiana General Assembly. Other state leaders and nearly 100 trial court judges from across the state filled the 4th floor gallery, and several county sheriffs watched from the north balcony of the grand house chamber. It was standing room only as the Chief Justice quickly declared, “I will get right to the point: your judiciary is stronger than ever!”

In the speech, Rush recounted ways that our courts contribute to Hoosiers’ collective prosperity. And she celebrated the fact that all three branches of our state government now routinely collaborate to improve our justice system. The speech is reprinted in full below.
