Noble County Chief Probation Officer Stacey Beam and Bartholomew County Chief Probation Officer Brad Barnes have been named to “The Order of Augustus” by the Probation Officers Advisory Board of the Judicial Conference of Indiana. Beam received the 2020 award; Barnes received the 2021 award. The awards were presented virtually during the Justice Services Conference April 28 and 29.
Beam was nominated by Wells County Chief Probation Officer Greg Werich. Beam has been a probation officer for over 31 years, starting her career in Noble County in 1989. In 1999, she became Assistant Chief Probation Officer, and in 2002, she became Chief Probation Officer.
Barnes was nominated by Kim Maus, Assistant Chief Probation Officer for Bartholomew County Court Services. Barnes has been a probation officer for over 34 years, starting with Lawrence County Probation in 1989. In the late 1990s, he introduced evidence-based practices to Bartholomew County, where he currently serves as Director of Bartholomew County Court Services.
The Probation Officers Advisory Board consists of 23 probation officers—17 elected from districts and six appointed by the Chief Justice of the Indiana. The Advisory Board is supported by the Indiana Office of Court Services, which develops and provides continuing education and assistance to judges, probation officers, and other court personnel.
