Indiana welcomes new Judges & Magistrates

After the general elections on November 4, 2014, forty-three new judges took the bench on January 1, 2015, and they were joined by twenty-three newly appointed magistrates. Five of the new sitting judges are from prosecutor positions (two prosecutors and three deputy prosecutors), four were previously magistrates, and one was a juvenile court referee
The Indiana General Assembly through House Enrolled Act 1110 also authorized six Indiana counties to appoint new magistrates to their local courts. Those counties and courts are as follows:

• Clark Circuit to appoint a third full-time magistrate
• Greene Circuit and Superior courts to jointly appoint one full-time magistrate
• Madison Circuit to add a second full time magistrate
• Marion Superior Court to appoint four additional full-time magistrates in 2016
• Porter Circuit Court to bring on a full-time magistrate
• St. Joseph Circuit Court to appoint one additional full-time magistrate
• St. Joseph Superior Court to appoint two additional magistrates
