With the help of funding from the Division of State Court Administration, Judge Susan Orr Henderson, Fountain County Circuit Court, and Judge Diane Kavadias Schneider, Lake County Superior Court, Civil Division, worked with a task force and the Division’s Judicial Technology and Automation Committee (JTAC) staff to develop a new Guardianship Registry Application in response to the need for courts to better track and monitor the status of guardianship cases in Indiana.
On May 1st, the pilot of the Guardianship Registry was launched. A new INcite application, the Registry allows court staff to enter and maintain case information regarding the petition for, and issuance of, guardianships. In addition, the Registry interfaces with the Odyssey Case Management System (CMS) to create and update guardianship cases, which eliminates the need for duplicate data entry.
The Guardianship Registry applies to all temporary and permanent guardianships. It will track whether the guardianship is for the estate or for the individual, and whether the person is an adult or a child. The Registry will also:
- Allow users to create petitions, orders and waivers
- Allow important documents to be attached to a case
- Provide alerts when a guardianship expires, when an accounting or inventory is due, or when a guardian ad litem is required
- Maintain a list of Certified Guardians (both individuals and institutions)
- Make the court’s calendar and CCS in Odyssey available in the Registry
Judge Henderson highlighted the new Guardianship Registry at the 2014 World Congress on Adult Guardianship Conference in Arlington, Virginia at the end of May.
The pilot phase for the Guardianship Registry Application is expected to last three months with a staggered deployment to participating counties. Fountain and Warren counties kicked off the pilot and Judge Henderson entered the first case on May 1st. Hendricks, Hamilton and Lawrence counties joined the pilot later in the month.
